Yountville Real Estate Information

Yountville was founded in 1855 by the first American settler in the Napa Valley, George C. Yount, who also lived here until his death. The home of the California Veterans Home, Yountville offers tourist shopping and many fine restaurants. A small grocery store is located here but an 11 mile trip to Napa is required for major shopping. It is a quiet community set in the heart of the valley and wine country, with many fine homes and a mobile home park--Rancho de Napa Mobile Estates. Vineyards stretch out in all directions. To the west the Mayacama Mountains rise to the high point --Mt. Veeder. To the east, Stagg's Leap juts into the sky.

Yountville has a nice park with modern play apparatus for children, a fine spot for a Sunday picnic. A short drive out of town lead to Napa river access, offering a nice weekend walk and a swimming hole for those hot days.

Services and Shopping Yountville has many restaurants and shops. Vintage 1870, filled with many specialty shops, was once a winery. Nearby is the Whistle Stop, the old Yountville train depot now occupied with specialty shops. Ranch MarketToo provides a local store for groceries. But if you want to shop at the major supermarkets a drive to Napa is required. A trip to Napa or other localities is also required for major department stores purchases or household goods purchases. Entertainment There are many restaurants in Yountville. The nearest cinemas are located in Napa. Yountville often holds activities. The Lincoln Theater at the California Veterans Home often has programs including Napa Valley Symphony concerts. The Yountville park by the Pioneer Cemetery has an excellent playground for children and picnic facilities.

Yountville wanted to be officially called a Village but because State Law has no provision for "villages," Yountville settled on being called a Town. It does not want to be called a city.

George C. Yount called his new town Sebastaspol, not realizing another town with this name existed in nearby Sonoma County. The town name was changed to Yountville, in honor of its founder, shortly after Yount's death.
